In May 2025, the City of Ekurhuleni, in partnership with National Treasury, the World Bank, Konecta, and Avo Vision, hosted Mission Week — a two-day digital strategy validation session in Thembisa. This groundbreaking event aimed to reshape township economies through inclusive technology and innovation.

Purpose & Vision

Mission Week was designed to validate Ekurhuleni’s draft digital development strategy, one of five pilot sites in South Africa. Built on the World Bank’s diagnostic framework, the strategy focuses on five pillars:

Digital Platforms
Digital Finance
Digital Entrepreneurship
Digital Skills
